Reza Ovissi

REZA OVISSIPOUR, Ph.D

Reza Ovissipour is an Assistant Professor at the Seafood AREC and the Department of Food Science at Technology at Virginia Tech. He has a Ph.D. in Seafood Science and Technology, with an emphasis on bioprocess engineering, and a Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering which an emphasis on food safety engineering and protein structure. 

Reza has more than 20 years’ experience working on aquaculture, seafood, bioprocessing, food safety and biotechnology. Reza is leading “Sustainable Food Production Systems” focusing on food and seafood safety-quality, alternative proteins (including plants, insects, and algae), and cellular agriculture. He has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and 8 patents (issued and pending). He is very motivated to address food security concerns through sustainable food production systems.
